High School Girls Softball: East loses close one to Jackson Memorial
Jackson, NJ – With bases loaded and two outs in the top of the seventh and just a one run lead, Jackson pitcher Stephanie Havens pitched her team out of a jam by getting Toms River East’s Jordan Weed out. Ahead 3-2, Memorial allowed three runners to reach base on errors with two outs, but forced the Raiders to end the game with the bases loaded. East was on the verge of coming back after losing an early 1-0 lead.
East put up a run in the top of the first after Brianna Dziedzic reached home on an error.
Memorial got their three runs in the first after a lead off walk after Weed hit Sam Jerry with a pitch. Sam Barrington then got on base with a hit to right field, but Jerry was out at second. Sarah Freye followed up with a base hit, putting two on with one out in the top of the first. Stephanie Havens then loaded the bases for Dana Hruska. Hruska cleared the bases with a triple to right field and put the Jaguars on top 3-0.
In the second inning, Memorial loaded the bases, but couldn’t get a run in. East then put down the next 13 Jackson batters. In the top of the third, East’s Kathleen Sharp got things going with a base hit and was driven home with an RBI single by Jordan Weed.
That was all the action in the game until the top of the seventh as Havens helped get her team their fifth win and an important win against East. Weed struck out 5 in the loss. East falls to 3-3 on the season.
