Slate cleaned in Toms River School Board Election
Toms River, NJ – For many, Frank Rodgers, Karen Kenny and Mary Bageac represented a continuation of business as usual in the era of the Ritacco regime in Toms River, but they were defeated by the Clean Slate team of Alexander Pavliv, Loreen Torrone and Ben Geovine. In the polls, Toms River voters said no more and Torrone and Giovine won in a near landslide victory. The election represents a changing of the guard in the Toms River Regional School District in light of the 2010 investigation, arrest and resignation of long time superintendent Michael Ritacco. 2010 candidate Nels Luthman dropped out of the race early, but still came up a winner with today’s win “I still wanted to make sure that we finished cleaning house so that we can get back to the business of educating children.” he said back in March when he removed himself from the race.
The news may not be good for township legal counsel Gilmore and Associates as the trio had pledged a change in any township professionals they feel looked the other way during the 2010 scandal. Check back for updates on this story.
