Fire consumes upper floors of Clayton Avenue home

On Saturday night, fire consumed the attic and upper floor of a Clayton Avenue home in Toms River.  The fire was reported at 11:35 pm and firefighters were on scene until after 1:00 am before the scene was cleared.    Smoke was seen billowing out of the structure and flames were protruding through the roof before firefighters extinguished the fire.   No occupants were injured in the fire, but one pet, a cat, was reportedly killed.

The Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention is investigating the cause of the fire.
