District 18 Tournament: Wednesday preview

The New Jersey District 18 Little League Tournament heads to Brick, Lacey, Lakewood and Toms River East Little League on Wednesday in game 2 of Little League Baseball action.

Jackson vs. Berkeley @ Brick 6:30pm
Jackson is coming off a 4-1 win against Barnegat.  With Chris Hawryluk pitching four innings and striking out 9 on Monday, Berkeley may not get a break.   JTOWN’s player of the Month, Jess Raffa is a possibility on the mound for Jackson.  Raffa is coming off his team’s championship win where he struck out 15 batters.  Berkeley on Monday lost to Manchester 13-3 in Jackson.

Toms River East National vs. Barnegat @ Brick 6:30 pm
East’s National Team walked over Lakewood on Monday in Jackson, but Barnegat kept their loss to a strong Jackson team to just 4 runs.

Toms River American vs. Toms River National @ Brick 6:30 pm
Both Toms River Little League teams had great first games.  American defeated Toms River Eeast 14-2 in 4 innings and National won a 14-8 home run derby against Holbrook.

Holbrook vs. Lacey @ Lacey 6:30pm
Lacey is coming off a painful 10-0 shutout against Brick and Holbrook showed potential late in the game against Toms River National, scoring 8 runs in the last 3 innings of their 14-8 loss.  Lacey will have home field advantage to work in their favor.

Lakewood vs. Manchester at Lakewood 6:30pm
Lakewood needs to kick their game up a notch if they want to stay in the game against Manchester.  Manchester defeated Berkeley 13-3 on Monday and Lakewood has to keep pitching and fielding under control if they want to have a chance to advance next week.

Toms River East American vs. Brick at TRELL 6:30pm
After defeating Lacey 11-0 on Monday, Brick is on a roll and has the momentum they need to get to the next round in the tournament, but Toms River East American is coming off a intra-league game on Monday.  With the game being played inside the belly of the beast, Brick is going to have to put aside the home team crowd and focus on balls and strikes and inside the white lines.
