Toms River East’s Pollaro strikes out 12 in D18 tournament vs Barnegat

Toms River East National pitcher Pollmo pitched a solid 5 innings of shutout baseball striking out 12 Barnegat batters and allowed only two hits through the 5th inning.   Through 4 innings of play, the game was scoreless with the only scoring threat coming off a 4th inning shot off Pollaro’s bat to deep left field, caught near the fence by the Barnegat left fielder.

Toms River got things started in the 5th inning with a one out home run by 1b Mercedes followed by a Durovich single and double by SS Shiffer.  Both crossed the plate by the end of the inning, putting Toms River East National up 2-0 after 5 innings.

In the 6th inning, it was DejaVu for Toms River as they circled the bases one hit at a time as they had done Monday night against Lakewood.  Toms River scored 5 runs on 4 hits in the top of the 5th and Pollmo held off and finished the game and gave Toms River their 2nd win of the tournament.   Barnegat managed to avoid a shutout and scored 1 run in the bottom of the inning.
