Toms River National comes from behind twice to beat Toms River American in D18 Little League Tournament
Despite pitching nearly 4 2/3 innings of near flawless baseball, Toms River Little League’s American League All-Stars could not shake off the determined Toms River National League team. After striking out 8 batters and allowing just one hit through the first three innings, Toms River American held on to a 2-0 lead going into the 4th inning after putting up one run in the 1st and second innings.
In the 4th, TR National began chipping away at the lead as Jared Klecan, who hit a monster grand slam two days earlier lead the inning off with a base hit. Klecan would cross the plate later in the inning cutting TR American’s lead in half, 2-1.
In the bottom of the 5th after a lead off ground out to the mound and a strike out, Toms River National pieced together a 2 run rally that started off with a Mike Nyisztor shot over the left center field fence to give National a 3-2 lead. It was Nyisztor’s 3rd long ball in the first two games of the tournament. Parker Day followed up with a base hit and Klecan moved Day over to third on a double.
Klecan and Day would be pushed across the plate before the end of the inning, giving TR National a 4-2 lead going into the top of the sixth and final inning. TR American’s Amanda Joyce, the 2011 Yankee Stadium PHR Champion took a pitch in the leg to get on base to get things going. Tommy Campo then answered back with a 2 run shot deep high over the fence, tying the game 4-4 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. TR National’s Brant Reymann then ended the game with a 2 run walk off home run over the left centerfield fence, giving TR National their second win in the tournament in the bottom of the inning.
