Toms River and State Police investigating early morning motor vehicle accident
More than three hours after a serious motor vehicle accident sent one to the hospital this morning, New Jersey State Police and Toms River Police are still conducting an investigation at the crash site. Route 571 remained closed to westbound traffic as the investigation continued.
Toms River Police responded to a serious motor vehicle accident on Route 571 just east of Old Freehold Road at 8 a.m. Thursday morning . “A truck was traveling eastbound when it collided with a car that was entering 571 from the Fairway apartments.” Toms River Police Chief Mastronardy said. The truck was a fully loaded roll-off truck owned by Tri-State Carting of Toms River.
Pleasant Plains Fire Company and Silverton Fire Companies responded for extrication of the male who was trapped in his vehicle. The truck driver was not injured. Toms River and East Dover First aid treated the victim at the scene who was then airlifted to jersey Shore Trauma Center in Neptune.
Traffic was detoured as Route 571 westbound was closed while emergency crews removed the victim and conducted their investigation into the accident.
Traffic Safety Corporal Frank Palino and Lt. Michael Brosnan are leading the investigation along with Ocean County sheriff’s Department and the New Jersey State Police Truck unit.
Chief Mastronardy said the State Police units were investigating because the accident involved a large commercial truck.
