Route 9 and Fischer Blvd closed after morning accidents
Toms River police were busy with traffic detours and traffic control after two accidents with no injuries on Saturday morning.
The first accident occurred at 11 a.m. when a vehicle took down two poles at the intersection of Fischer Blvd and Lisbon Avenue. This accident caused Fischer Blvd to be closed for one hour and also effected traffic lights on Fischer Blvd and on Route #37. Alfonso Domingo, 23, of Toms River was driving a 2010 Toyota north on Fischer preparing to turn into a shopping center. A vehicle southbound stopped to allowed Mr. Domingo to make his turn when a 2002 Chevy operated by Osmany Valdes, 33, of Manchester Township, driving southbound on Fischer went around the stopped vehicles drove on the shoulder and the collision occurred. After the crash the Chevy went up a curb and struck a utility pole which brought utility wires down. The accident caused the disruption of Electrical service in the area for an hour and a half. Traffic Safety Corporal Sean McHugh is investigating the accident.
The second accident occurred at 1230 p.m. after a dump truck leaving the Dover Mall construction site made contact with utility wires . The accident necessitated closing route #166 between Route #37 and Old Freehold Road. New Jersey State DOT emergency response team assisted in coordinating the traffic detour throughout the afternoon.. The auxiliary police also assisted in traffic control with these accidents.
