A 73 year old man was inside his car when it blew up tonight in Old Bridge Township, New Jersey.  Old Bridge firefighters were on scene and the man, Benny Koske was pulled from the flaming wreckage.  Of course that’s Benny’s job.  He goes by the name of Benny the Human Bomb and has been blowing himself up since the 1970′s.   He was the grand finale in tonight’s PC Richards’ Monster Truck Meltdown at Old Bridge’s Raceway Park.   After a night full of monster truck mayhem including the legendary Big Foot and Grave Digger, Koske, who claims to be the world’s oldest daredevil sat in his car as roughly 25,000 spectators counted down.  Then, his late model sedan went up in flames.  As has been the case over the past 30 plus years, Benny got out well enough to blow himself up another day.

It was just one scene in an evening filled with monster trucks racing, BMX freestyle, motocross freestyle and fireworks.   In the monster truck race, Big Foot went head to head against Grave Digger, winning the speed contest.

In the main event, the monster truck freestyle, it was a different story as Maximum Destruction’s huge jumps and insane 360′s in the pits had the crowd up on their feet in a no-contest match up. Mechanical problems prevented Grave Digger from competing in the freestyle event.  Other trucks competing on the night included Black Stallion, Monster Mutt, Iron Warrior, Viper, War Wizard and The Monster Truck School Bus.

Monster Truck Meltdown was the third event in a summer long family speed series at the Raceway, sponsored by PC Richards and Chevy.   This was the last monster truck event for the season at Raceway Park, but the track offers a whole schedule full of nightly racing events both on and off the drag strip.  Aside from NHRA drag racing, the park features three motocross tracks, a 1.3 mile road course, competition kart racing and autocross.  It is located just off Route 527 in Old Bridge Township.  Visit http://www.etownraceway.com/ for a full schedule.
