Summer heats up in September in Seaside Heights

Seaside Heights has had a great summer with great weather, drawing record numbers of crowds this year, a major boost to the shore area which had some down years during the recession.  But, once the summer season ends on Labor Day, the summer fun continues in Seaside all throughout the month.

Long after the Jersey Shore cast has gone, after Joe Jonas goes back home with the rest of the summer tourists, locals know September is the best month at the Jersey Shore.

Boardwalk Bed Race – Sept. 9

Let the good times roll at the Boardwalk Bed Race! The thrilling and intense race calls for teams to race their beds down the boardwalk. You have to see it to believe it! The fun-filled race begins at 6:00 p.m. and takes place at the Franklin Avenue stage.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third placed teams. First place is $500, second place is $300, and third place is $200. The first place team will receive a check for $1,000 payable to a non-profit charity of their choice. Also, a prize will be awarded for the best-dressed team.

Shamrock Fest – Sept. 10

Everybody’s Irish in Seaside Heights during Shamrock Fest’s Celebration of Irish Heritage. Come and shop around many Irish craft and Irish retail vendors along the Boardwalk from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Irish entertainment including strolling bagpipers, will be offered along the boardwalk as well. The celebration continues at Seaside Heights’ bars and night clubs.

Seafood Festival – Sept. 11

From 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Grant Avenue. The Seafood in Seaside Festival will include mouth watering seafood specialties from local restaurants, including, Ryan’s Deli and Catering, Luna Derosa, Hemingway’s Cafe, The Greek Peak, On Top of Spaghetti and many more. They will be serving a variety of seafood, such as, sushi, clams, shrimp, calamari, crab cakes, seafood kabobs, and blackened scallops just to give you a sampling of what will be offered. The festival features all day musical entertainment from bands such as local favorite, Shorty Long. Shoppers will be able to browse artists and crafters merchandise and a flea market with over 80 vendors.

Vintage Car Show – Sept. 11

Sunday, September 11th From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Bay Boulevard, registration is between 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.. Over eighty trophies will be given out and cars judged “Best Pre-War,” “Best Post-War,” “Best Work in Progress,” “Rusty Bucket,” and “Oldest Cars” will receive special recognition. The show is sponsored by the Vintage Automobile Club of Ocean County.

30th Annual Chowder Fest – Sept. 16-17

This is the 30th anniversary of a weekend full of slapstick comedy and colorful clown creations. The annual Big Clown Parade will take place on the boardwalk on  Sunday at 2:00 p.m. There is a kiddie and amateur competition too!

H.O.G. rally  / Bike Week -  Sept 22-25

The New Jersey State Hog Rally starts Thursday with registration. A vendor alley on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, fireworks display Friday evening and a  motorcycle parade on the Boardwalk on Saturday.

 Third Annual BBQ State Championship and Festival – Sept 23-25

Seaside Heights is proud to present “Que-by-the-Sea,” the Third Annual BBQ State Championship and Festival on Grant Avenue. Festival times are Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Que-by-the-Sea, which is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, features contestants from throughout the tri-state area. Contestants will be competing for $13,000 in prize money and awards.

The festival will include large BBQ vendors, artists and crafters, as well as retail vendors, and all day musical entertainment.
