Toms River South Raiders win division championship

By Phil Stilton

After finishing the regular season with a 5-2-1 record in second place behind the undefeated Manchester Hawks (8-0), the Toms River South Raiders AYF Pee Wee football team upset the #1 seeded hawks in the 2011 B Division Championship game.

The Raiders started the post season shutting out Red Bank  (6-2) 13-0.  In the second round, they beat a tough Jackson Liberty team 13-6, but in the division final, they stopped an unstoppable Manchester team coming off their 10th consecutive win by a score of 27-6.   The Raiders will now head to Brick this weekend to play the A Division champion Fliers of Neptune who are coming off a 32-8 win against an previously undefeated Holmdel team in the Shore Conference final.  If the Raiders pull off another upset, this could be the story of the season for the Jersey Shore Conference of the  American Youth Football League.

The winner of this weekend’s game will win a trip to the AYF Nationals hosted in Orlando, Florida.
