MidWeek Jazz Series schedule at OCC
TOMS RIVER – The sounds of hot music and cool vocals sizzle when Ocean County College’s Arts and Community Center hosts the popular MidWeek Jazz Series. Come hear acclaimed artists play classic jazz and swing in a single 90-minute set! Shows run on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. on OCC’s Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River, NJ. Please use Parking Lot #2. Tickets are on sale now at the OCC Box Office.
November 30: Master guitarist Frank Vignola is back with guitar virtuoso Vinny Raniolo. This masterful duo combines blinding speed and unique treatments to make every number memorable. Vignola plays at ridiculous tempos with spectacular fingering and strums faster than the eye can see. Raniolo is able to hold his own with solos featuring blistering speed and impeccable technique.
December 14: Ivory & Gold blends the rapid, manic stride piano style of Jeff Barnhart with the precise classical flute of Anne Barnhart. Their repertoire runs from ragtime through early jazz and into the swing era, touching on pop tunes and even some gospel. Barnhart can even wring humor out of normally serious music, such that he has been dubbed the “The Victor Borge of Jazz.” With a steady flow of CDs that have earned them wide critical acclaim, this is a “must-see.”
In addition, the 2012 Season opens with two impressive offerings:
January 11: The Midiri Brothers Salute Benny Goodman will excite music lovers of all generations. At concerts and festivals, they bring huge audiences to their feet time and time again. The Midiris and Goodman – perfect together!
February 8: Geoff Gallante is a young trumpet and cornet player with a repertoire featuring classic jazz. He plays well-crafted and original solos, with energy and enthusiasm.
