Garage destroyed in Pleasant Plains fire overnight

Toms River fire companies and police responded to a structural fire in the Pleasant Plains section of the township overnight.  Shortly after 1:30 am Wednesday, a fire was reported at 162 Liberty Bell Road, which is located near Ticonderoga Drive near the intersection of Route 9 and Cox Cro Road.    ”Police Officer Michael Foy arrived to find flames emanating from the garage of the two story residence.” Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said.

Pleasant Plains , Silverton, and Toms River Fire Company No. 2 responded and extinguished the fire which caused significant damage to the garage area.  The fire also caused some damage to the siding of  the home located at 166 Liberty Bell Road.

“Stanley Lutkiewicz 36 reported that he was in the residence when he detected smoke coming from the garage area.” Mastronardy said ” He unsuccessfully attempted to put out the fire with a fire with a fire extinguisher then awoke the rest of the family who then exited the residence.  Mr. Lutkiewicz was treated by Toms River Police EMS for minor burns on his hands.”

The Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention and Police Officers Thomas DiMichele and Dan Ruiz are investigating the fire.
