Accident on New Hampshire Avenue in Toms River
Toms River Police are investigating a head on traffic crash at New Hampshire Avenue and White Oak Bottom Road at 130 am Saturday morning. A 2011 Honda operated by Laureen Coup 43 was southbound on New Hampshire Avenue when it collided with a northbound 1997 Nissan that was operated by Anthony Wright Jr 17 of Lakewood. Coup and a witness stated that the northbound car crossed into the southbound lane and Mr. Wright reported to Traffic Safety Corporeal Sean McHugh that he fell asleep as he was driving home. A passenger in Wright’s vehicle Alfred Demby 17 of Lakewood reported that he was asleep in the front passenger seat and he woke up and observed the driver sleeping at the wheel. He reports that he awaken the driver then the collision occurred. Demby was transported to Community Medical Center with a broken arm.
A back seat passenger Thomas Jalen 18 of Lakewood walk away from the scene after the collision and was located by Officer Adam Koeppen on New Hampshire Avenue in Lakewood and told the officer he was walking to the Hospital. A Lakewood ambulance transported him to Kimball Medical Center for treatment for a laceration under his eye.
So far Mr. Wright was issued summons for Driving while suspended, reckless driving, provisional license violation, failure to wear a seatbelt.
Pleasant Plains and Silverton Fire Companies extricated Mr. Wright from his vehicle and he was transported by Toms River Police EMS to Jersey Shore Hospital.
Coup was trans[ported to Community Hospital by Toms River Police EMS and treated and released.
