Teen, 56 year old man assaulted during home invasion in Toms River, teen arrested for drug possession

Toms River Police responded to a home invasion at 22 Cadillac drive Toms River just after 1130 pm Thursday night.  Deven Skyers 18 , who is living at that address with family members  reported he heard his dog barking and then was struck in the head with a handgun by one of at least three males while he was lying in his bed.  Investigation found that the suspects broke out the sliding glass door of the bi-level home and entered the downstairs bedroom where the victim was sleeping.  A 56 year old male ran downstairs when he heard the rear slider glass break and was punched in the face by one of the male intruders before they ran out the broken slider door.  That male refused medical attention but Mr. Skyers was transported to Community Medical Center by Toms River First Aid Squad. The suspects all in dark clothing fled the house without any proceeds.  Police recovered a loaded  Glock magazine that apparently was from the weapon that was used to strike the Mr. Skyers in the head.

Officers Richard Buhowski, Michael McDonald and Sergeant Raymond Maloney investigated along with the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.   Detective John Bajcic obtained a search warrant for the residence and recovered  $2000 in cash and drugs from the assault victim’s room.  Skyers once released from the hospital,  was then arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and lodged in the Ocean County Jail on $20,000 no 10 %.

Captain Bruce Burgess reports that this is the 3rd home invasion robbery in the Township in the last month that do not appear to be related but  all of which are drug related.
