“Shooting” and Stabbing Incident Being Investigated by Police in Toms River

A man claimed he was shot in the groin, but was stabbed after an altercation between two neighbors after one came home from work intoxicated, according to Toms River Police.      At 3:00 am, Sunday morning, Toms River Police responded to a call that a man had been shot on Brandon Road.

Members of the Silverton First Aid Squad transported the man to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, where he was treated and released for a stab wound.

“Investigation found that a 42 year old man was coming home and was highly intoxicated apparently causing a disturbance.” Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said  ”When approached by  a 35 year old male  neighbor to keep the noise down.    Apparently there was a confrontation and both parties went to their respective homes.”

Police later learned the 42 year old man called police indicating he was shot in the groin 30 minutes after the incident occurred.  Sergeant Raymond Maloney Officer Kyle Martucci and Detective Alex Scherer are investigating the incident.

Story Update:

Police confirmed that the man had not been shot, but did suffer a stab wound as originally reported.
