Vigilant Owner Helps Toms River Police End Woman’s Sub Shop Scam
A vigilant owner of a submarine sandwich store helped Toms River Police put an end to a woman’s sub scam that encompassed three towns. When 34 year old Jennifer Eberling, of Toms River entered a sub shop demanding a refund for a horrible hoagie, that’s when the owner got suspicious according to Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy. “Officer Brian Jarka was following up on investigation where a female had contacted a local sub store and claimed she got sick on subs she ordered and demanded a refund.” the chief said ”The store owner became suspicious and contacted Officer Jarka after he learned this white blonde female was apparently do this at many sub shops in the area including Brick and Point Pleasant.”
Toms River Police have charged Eberling with one count of theft by deception after the investigation found she received $18 refund after complaining about subs that she never purchased. She was also held on a $150 warrant out of Brick and a $750 warrant out of Lakewood. The investigation is continuing and any information can be forwarded to Detective Captain Bruce Burgess at 349-1050 ext 1200
