OCC’s Clayton Joins 1,000 Point Club in Toms River

JaMario Clayton, point guard for the Ocean County College Vikings Basketball Team scored his 1000 Career Point as a college athlete during the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Region XIX / Garden State Athletic Conference  Men’s’ Basketball game played on Thursday, February 9.  Clayton not only scored his 1000 career point, but the Vikings beat Gloucester Community College by a score of 56- 48!  The game was played in the OCC Gymnasium, Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River.

 

Clayton scored a three point shot on his first basket of the home game bringing his point total to 1001!  Ocean County College honored Clayton right after he achieved this milestone.  OCC President Dr. Jon Larson, Vice President of Student Affairs Don Doran, Athletic Director Ilene Cohen, as well as coaching staff Taurean Fisher and Jeff Mogila, presented Clayton with a special basketball recognizing his athletic achievement.

 

“1000 points is an honor to achieve and we are proud that JaMario has joined the elite group of players who have reached 1000 points,” said OCC Athletic Director Ilene Cohen.

 

In addition, Clayton earned Player of the Week for the second-consecutive week.  Last week, the 5-foot 6-inch Clayton dominated OCC’s opponents in two wins for the Vikings.  According to Cohen, the sophomore was all over the court in a 93-77 win over Montgomery County Community College (PA), racking up 33 points, six assists, and five steals.  In a game against Northampton Community College (PA), Clayton knocked down 18-of-31 shots for the field for 47 points as the Vikings cruised to a 103-90 win.
