Winter and Spring Midweek Jazz at OCC in Toms River

The sounds of hot music and cool vocals sizzle when Ocean County College’s Arts and Community Center hosts the popular MidWeek Jazz Series.  Come hear acclaimed artists play classic jazz and swing in a single 90-minute set!  Shows run on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. on OCC’s Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River, NJ.  Please use Parking Lot #2.

March 7: Dan Levinson’s Fête Manouche Returns with Django Reinhardt Sound – Fête Manouche performs so-called “Gypsy Jazz,” an electrifying, fast-paced genre.  Originally, violin joined the rapid-fire guitar work that is central to this style, but Dan Levinson substitutes clarinet.  The combination produces breathtaking jazz with distinctive instrumentation.

April 18: Emily Asher’s Garden Party – A new arrival in the New York City area, Asher is already recording with top names and figures in several popular bands in and around the city.  Her Garden Party plays classic jazz and swing, jumping through hoops to entertain their large audiences.

May 30: Randy Reinhart “The Man with the Mellow Horn” – Reinhart has recently been described as “the man with the mellow horn” by a national jazz publication.  He drew national attention while playing with the Jim Cullum Jazz Band, via frequent NPR broadcasts from San Antonio, having taught himself trombone just to get the gig!

June 13: String of Pearls – This vocal trio “shows an authentic and affectionate spirit with an extraordinary kaleidoscope of group singing styles,” says Michael Bourne, WBGO-FM.  This unique group is quickly building a worldwide following.  Sue Halloran, Jeanne O’Connor, and Holli Ross, singing as a trio and individually present a very polished performance indeed.

June 27: Bucky Pizzarelli – Back Again! – Living legend guitarist Pizzarelli has filled more seats for MidWeek Jazz than any other performer!  For this show, he is ably assisted by violin virtuoso Aaron Weinstein, who has charmed audiences for years.  Equally familiar is Jerry Bruno, at the upright string bass, who has a résumé as long as Bucky’s.  Seats sell quickly when this trio visits!
