Accident Sends Two to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Toms River

Toms River Police responded to an accident at Whitesville Road and Riverwood Drive 530 p.m. Sunday.  A Honda van operated by Nechama Itzkowitz 28 of Lakewood was exiting Riverwood Drive coming from Riverwood Park  collided with a 2011 Chev Trailblazer that was southbound on Whitesville Road.  The Trailblazer operated by Carmine Petosa 40 of Jackson then struck a utility pole. The van had 6 children and a pregnant passenger of which one child was flown to Jersey Shore and the pregnant passenger was transported by ambulance to Jersey Shore Trauma center.  Mr. Petosa suffered minor injuries.

 

Silverton First Aid, Toms River  and Hatzolah emergency medical services responded along with Pleasant Plains Fire Company.

 

Traffic safety Officer David Bartoshek is investigating the accident along with Officer Joshua Pedalino and Sergeant Eugene Bachonski.

 

Whitesville Road was closed between Stevens and Riverwood for two hours during the investigation and northbound is closed until utility crews replace a pole that was struck.
