Toms River Police Witness 4 Car DWI Accident on Route 37

Officer Steven Schwartz was conducting an investigation into a suspected intoxicated driver on Route 37 westbound, just east of Vaughn Avenue, when he witnessed a pickup truck strike a motorcycle and three other cars.

Investigation found that Carl Heer,  51, was driving his Ford pickup truck westbound when he struck a  Yamaha motorcycle pushing it 300 feet before smashing into two other cars stopped at the traffic signal.

The operator of the motorcycle, Nicholas Gerofsky, 19, of Browns Mills and his passenger Brooke Hiis, 24,  of Bayville were transported to Jersey Shore Trauma Center in Neptune Township by the Silverton First Aid Squad.

Jamie Cunningham, 17, of Toms River whose 2002 Pontiac was struck and Jennifer Mergogey, 25, of Manchester whose 2012 Kia was struck were both not injured.

Assisting in the investigation were Officer Jason Putkowski, Traffic Safety Officer Brian Doyle and Sergeant Michael Miller.

Traffic safety Officer Schwartz also charged the operator of the vehicle originally being investigated, Jean Ryan 53, of Jackson with DWI.
