Twelve To Be Inducted into Barnaget Bay Sailing Hall of Fame

Toms River (PR)–Outstanding sailors who earned their sea legs on the Barnegat Bay will have their names entered into the Barnegat Bay Sailing Hall of Fame, Class of 2012. Eight inductees will be formally recognized at the Barnegat Bay Sailing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, October 6, at 6:00 p.m., in the Gymnasium, on Ocean County College’s Main Campus, College Drive, in Toms River. Proceeds will be used to support the Ocean County College Sailing Program.
The Barnegat Bay Sailing Hall of Fame promotes and preserves the area’s maritime heritage by recognizing individuals whose accomplishments on the water and/or on shore have significantly enhanced Barnegat Bay’s maritime character and strengthened its status as a maritime center. Organized in 2004, the BBSHOF recognizes not only those sailors with ties to Barnegat Bay but those who have achieved excellence in the sport of sailing and/or contributed to the sport in some extraordinary manner.
The 2012 inductees are: John J. Applegate (Lavallette Yacht Club) – Roger Brown (Metedeconk River Yacht Club) – Britton Chance, Jr. (Mantoloking Yacht Club) – Paul Coward (Brant Beach Yacht Club) – John P. Harkrader (Bay Head and Manasquan River Yacht Clubs) – Charles J. Horter (Island Heights Yacht Club) – Mark Schleckser (Shore Acres and Lavallette Yacht Clubs) – and Doug & Peg Galloway (posthumously) (Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club).
