Toms River Court Room Expansion Construction Update

Toms River–Several construction projects are in progress in Toms River including the Roof/Solar Panel above the municipal parking garage downtown, the new animal shelter and the municipal court expansion.  Here is what the Municipal Court expansion looks like today.     It’s expected to be completed by October of 2013.

The current capacity is 60 seats, but there can be anywhere from 75-150 cases heard for night court.

Toms River Township Mayor Thomas F. Kelaher says that the court addition is necessary because of the growth of the township. “The original court facility was part of the police headquarters and was dedicated in 1975. At that time, the Municipal Court facilities were more than adequate for the needs of the community. As time went on and the population increased, it was apparent that the facilities could not keep up with the growth,” Kelaher stated.
