BlueClaws end 2012 Season with 3-2 Loss to Greensboro
Lakewood–Greensboro scored a run in the top of the 10th to beat Lakewood 3-2 in the final game of the 2012 regular season.
With one out in the bottom of the 9th inning and Lakewood trailing 2-1, Stephen Malcolm crushed a ball to the left field berm to tie the game. The homer was Malcolm’s first of his career in his 156th career at-bat.
Alejandro Villalobos followed-up the homer with a pop-up on the infield that no Grasshopper took charge of, and it dropped on the mound for an infield double. The next batter Brock Stassi followed the double with a one-out single to move Villalobos to third base. With runners on first and third, Tim Carver attempted a suicide squeeze, but popped it up which resulted in a double-play to end the inning.
Ethan Stewart gets the no-decision with seven innings of two-run ball to keep his ERA under 4.00 for the season. Stewart finished 2012 with a 5-9 record and a 3.89 ERA.
Lakewood finishes the second half with a 36-33 record and a 62-76 record overall.
