Morning Funnel Cloud Over Brick Township Declared Waterspout by NWS

Brick–A funnel cloud was spotted over Brick Township near Drum Point Road and lasted for approximately one minute this morning.   The event, which was at the time, unofficially a waterspout happened at approximately 11:30 this morning during the Shore Acres Hobie Regatta.  The regatta was cancelled after one person was sent to the hospital with an injury.

There was minor damage reported to nearby RV’s and owners of boats at the marina have reported minor damage.

Tonight the National Weather Service declared the event a waterspout and not a tornado since no damage was done on land.

“These are always fluid and subject to change, unless new information about land based damage come forward tomorrow, it will be classified as a waterspout,” according to the National Weather Service, Mount Holly station. “We were in contact with both Ocean County and Brick Township, we will declare it a waterspout. No damage was reported by either authority on land.”
