Little Egg Harbor Police Arrest Man for Tampering with Fatal Fire Crime Scene

Little Egg Harbor Township–Charles Bayham, age 45 of Little Egg Harbor Twp. was arrested on Oakland Bay Ct. due to a $1,500.00 warrant out of Berkeley Twp. Municipal Court.

Bayham was wanted by the Berkeley Township Police after being spotted by a Toms River Magazine photographer on Saturday afternoon, removing garage doors from a residence at 35 Biabou Drive in Holiday City at Berkeley just hours after Joseph Lasko, 70, died in the fire that gutted the home.

“The house was surrounded by crime scene tape. Police units weren’t cleared from the house for an hour and a half when the theft occurred,” said Berkeley Township Police Department Detective Joseph Robertazzi.

Our photographer immediately notified the Berkeley Township Police Department and the pictures were forwarded, including a photograph of the individual’s license plate.

After loading the garage doors into the vehicle, the man, suspected to be Bayham, fled the scene westbound on Biabou Drive.

Bayham was turned over to the Berkeley Twp. Police Department and transported to the Ocean County Jail. Patrolman Wilfredo Hernandez was the arresting officer.

“It wouldn’t have been possible without help from a local web[sic] reporter who provided photos of the suspect in the act,” Robertazzi said.

Bayham was charged with tampering with evidence, defiant trespass and theft, according to Robertazzi.
