Summer Memories at the Jersey Shore: Chris Christie Slams APP for Lakewood Schools

Lakewood–At what point does journalism cross a line from reporting the news and trying to fabricate a news story?  The Asbury Park Press learned this summer that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie wasn’t about to be conned into biting on a series of scathing reports about his attention to the Lakewood School District.

The series started off with articles about the well known state of Lakewood’s public school system’s problems.  After a full week of rants, the newspaper got angry when they didn’t get any response from the Governor.

Then, in July when Christie visited a private school that helps special needs students, the Governor let loose on the APP reporter.

There’s a fine line between reporting news and trying to create a news story to incite public outcry or to push a particular agenda.   As newspapers gasp their last breath of life, it seems like they are going out with a fight.

It will be interesting and entertaining this school year to see how this new battle with the Governor plays out and we can’t wait for the next Chris Christie newspaper smack down.
