Books and Bounce Gives Parents Inside Look at St. Aloysius School
By Olive Taylor
Jackson–Saint Aloysius School once again opened its doors to the littlest of Gators as it began the third session of the popular five week long Book and Bounce program. This program allows 2,3 and 4 year old children, and their parent or guardian, the chance to come to the school for an hour long program of reading, craft and gym time. Its all hands on deck as the 8th grade class under the guidance of the librarian, start off the hour with an opening prayer and stay with the group until the end of the session. This fosters responsibility on the part of the 8th graders and their interaction with the younger children allows the parent or guardian to have some time to chat and share stories with the other adults present.
Each week a book is selected and read to the children. Guest readers are invited and get into the spirit of things. This session, our guest readers are going to be our pastor, Fr. Kevin Keelen and Mrs. Ronnie Perry who is Director of Faith Formation. New to our program this year is Georgian Court University student, Miss Colette Falcone who is studying to be a teacher and who is helping out with the Books portion of the program and has lots of creative and fun ideas. The children get to make a craft that is in keeping with the theme of the book and then the merry band work their way to the school gym where our gym teacher Miss Caitlin McCarty takes over and the Bouncing begins. The children get to run around, shoot hoops, play soccer and other games, and take part in the end of session parachute dance that elicits laughter and shrieks all around from the children and even some of the 8th graders! School Principal, Elizabeth O’Connor who enjoys watching this energetic group enjoy their time said, “It always gives me great joy to see the little ones coming in the first day sort of shy and hiding and by the end of the first or second week, they have made friends and love playing with our 8th graders. This program is a nice way of encouraging our own students to help others and it shows others the warm, caring environment that our students enjoy every day”.
Another session of Books and Bounce will be announced shortly. For more information on this program email otaylor@saintaloysiusonline.org.
