Mother, Grandmother Arrested After Assault of Two Children on School Bus in Toms River

Toms River–Toms River Police are reporting a woman has assaulted two elementary school students on a schools bus today.   The incident occurred Friday morning when, according to the school bus driver, after a woman identified as Rebecca Sardoni, 28, of Martin Road entered the Toms River Regional Schools bus on first avenue.    The bus was picking up students from East Dover Elementary School.

Sardoni, then allegedly asked the children, “Who is Vinny?” and after a student at the rear of the bus raised his hand, she approached him and slapped the 9 year old in his face, according to Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.  Mastronardy said the woman also assaulted another boy.

The event, according to Police Officer Pam Slaven, who is responsible for intermediate and elementary schools in the township, was also confirmed by another witness.

After the assault of the child, Sardoni’s mother, Stephanie Sardoni, 51 of Beachwood, then entered the bus and began screaming and yelling at the boys on the bus, according to the eyewitness account.

“Witnesses stated that the mother was using vulgarity in front of all the students and referring to a problem with her daughter and she was going to take the young boys to court,” Mastronardy told JTOWN Magazine.  ”The boys were treated by the Toms River school Nurses  for cuts to their mouths and one of the boys was later taken by his parent for treatment of a neck injury to Community Medical Center.”

Rebecca Sardoni was arrested and charged with Simple Assault, Criminal Trespass and Terroristic Threats.  The grandmother Stephanie was charged with Criminal Trespass for entering the bus and both were released on summonses..

“The investigation by Officer Pam Slaven,  Detective Glen Lucas and Alex Scherer is continuing,” Mastronardy said.  ” The Department compliments the professional assistance they received from the Superintendent Frank Roselli and East Dover Principal Linda Downing and their staff in investigating this incident.”
