Mother of Fallen U.S. Marine Presented with Gold Star Flag by Toms River Mayor

Toms River–The family of United States Marine Pfc. Vincent Frassetto was awarded a gold star flag from Mayor Thomas Kelaher on behalf of Toms River Township.    Terry Frassetto accepted the flag on behalf of her son who was killed in action in September of 2006, just 18 days after his arrival in the country.

Kelaher says that the flag was flown over the Toms River town hall and reminded the audience at the October 23rd township council meeting that Hooper Avenue had also been dedicated as the Pfc. Vincent Frassetto Memorial Highway.

“Since we have had these combat situations in Iraq and Afghanistan, unfortunately Toms River has lost three of our young men, one of them [U.S. Marines] Pfc. Vincent Frassetto who was killed in Iraq,” he said. “Major Matt Weiss [U.S. Marines] who was a helicopter pilot shot down in Afghanistan and Dennis Miranda, a member of the U.S. Navy Seals who was also killed in Afghanistan.”

A gold star flag is only authorized by the Department of Defense for use by families who have lost family members in the line of service during wartime.
