Ocean County Hurricane Update

Toms River–Below is a brief list of Hurricane Sandy storm updates:

Ocean Gate–Multiple fire companies responding to a structure fire at the Ocean Gate Market in Ocean Gate.

Waretown–Station 36 responding to working shed fire on Marine Road.

Seaside–Rumors about storm surge severely damaging the Seaside Heights boardwalk north of the Fun Town Pier are false.  The photo published today and spread through the internet showed a construction project that had been ongoing and that damage was not caused by the storm.

Beachwood–752 homes without power.

Toms River–Emergency shelter at High School East opened at 9am after capacity reached at Toms River High School North. A voluntary order to evacuate low-lying coastal areas is recommended.

Barrier Island–Mandatory evacuation of the barrier islands ordered.
