Earle Asphalt Awarded $1.3 Million Beach Replacement Contract in Toms River

Toms River–At the Toms River Township Council meeting this week, the governing body awarded a contract, on an emergency basis, in the amount of $1.3 million to Earle Asphalt for dune and beach replacement.  Work will start immediately to rebuild our beaches, and will include importing sand and other materials at the rate of  200 to 300 loads of sand a day, for the foreseeable future.

“We need to note that this work will not be duplicative of any future work that MAY be done by the Army Corps of Engineers in the future,” Mayor Tom Kelaher said.  ”The Township fully supports the Governor’s efforts to have the US Army Corps of Engineers design and construct a more permanent and longer term beach and dune replacement solution. Until that happens, though, we need to reinforce the beach area to protect the properties and public infrastructure as soon as possible, and we have taken action to make sure that happens.”
