SEASIDE HEIGHTS–Last week, Seaside Heights Mayor William Akers suggested, according to an NBC interview, that the borough leave the Jetstar roller coaster in the Atlantic Ocean as a tourist attraction.   In an online poll conducted over the past 4 days, 87% of local residents think it’s a bad idea.

Of 474 respondents, 413 say it should go.  Locals cited many reasons in comments on the pier ranging from safety issues to wanting to rebuild and move on.

While the idea of a roller coasting sitting in the breakers of the Atlantic Ocean would definitely spark tourist interest, that’s not the form of tourism those who live in the area would like to see, according to the poll.
