Pedestrian Injured in Jackson Township
At 7:06 a.m., the Jackson Police Department received 911 calls regarding a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle in the area of 40 Cassville Rd. Upon officers arrival they found a 63 year old male lying in the roadway with serious injuries to his head and right leg, that had been struck by a car. The victim was treated by Quality Medical Transport and Monoc Paramedics; and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Initial investigation reveals that a 1994 Honda Civic was being operated by Edil M. Lao-Carreao a 23 year old resident of Levittown, Pa. The vehicle was traveling in a southerly direction in the area. The victim had just left the Village Donut Shop located at 45 Cassville Rd., and was walking in a southerly direction on the northbound shoulder of Cassville Rd. He then began crossing the roadway, mid-block, without first ensuring that traffic was clear. He was struck by the Honda within the southbound lane of the roadway. Apparent contributing factors in the crash were dark conditions, wet roadway and the victim wearing dark clothing further hampering visibility.
Identification of the pedestrian is being withheld pending the confirmation that his next of kin has been notified.
The crash remains under investigation by Police Officer Patrick Mackin and assisted by Police Officer Trevor Crowley, both of the Traffic Safety Bureau. They were assisted at the scene by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Dept. Criminalistics Investigation Unit.
