Police Department Continues Maintaining Security in Toms River Beach Communities
Toms River–Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said his department continues to keep a keen eye on the beachfront communities impacted by Sandy. Mastronardy said officers have caught several individuals with counterfeit access stickers in recent weeks during random spot checks and in his words, his officers, “nicely escorted those individuals off the island.”
Mastronardy said he met with local barrier island police chiefs about their plans to re-populate their towns and how the township will handle re-population traffic since access to northern communities must pass through the township.
Mastronardy said Brick Township rejected the use of the Mantoloking Bridge to provide access to the northern beach communities as an alternative. ”Obviously we’re not ready for that until we hear from the utilities, following the next utility meeting they will submit their plans to the NJ OEM for approval,” he said.
NJ DOT has been working on Route 35 South construction through Mantoloking, but the road is currently open to emergency vehicles only.
